Prosbectws yr Ysgol
Rydym yn adolygu cynnwys Prosbectws yr Ysgol yn flynyddol er mwyn cynnwys unrhyw
newidiadau mae Llywodraeth Cymru neu gyrff perthnasol erail , yn gofyn amdanynt neu'n deddfu.
Fel arfer, byddwn yn dosbarthu copi o'r Prosbectws i rieni y mae eu plant yn dechrau yn yr ysgol
am y tro cyntaf, neu'r rheiny sy'n trosglwyddo o ysgol uwchradd arall. Mae'r Prosbectws hefyd i'w
weld ar wefan yr ysgol. Rydym yn hysbysu rhieni pan fod unrhyw newidiadau i'r prosbectws. Ni fu

School Prospectus
We review the School Prospectus annually to incorporate any changes by the Welsh Government
or other relevant bodies, requested or enacted. Usually, we will distribute a copy of the Prospectus
to parents whose children are entering school for the first time, or those transferring from another
high school. The Prospectus can also be found on the school website. We inform parents when
any changes are made to the prospectus. There have been no changes to the prospectus for
2012/13.
Cynllun Gwella Ysgol
Mae Cynllun Datblygu'r Ysgol yn nodi'r cyfeiriad strategol y bydd yr ysgol yn ei ddilyn, dros gyfnod
o ddwy flynedd. Caiff y cynllun ei fonitro a'i adolygu'n gyson er mwyn cymryd i ystyriaeth y cynnydd
sydd wedi ei wneud ac unrhyw newidiadau i anghenion y cwricwlwm. Mae Cynllun Gwella Ysgol ar
gyfer blwyddyn academaidd 2012/14 wedi cael ei ystyried a'i gymeradwyo gan y Llywodraethwyr
ac ar hyn o bryd yn cael ei weithredu gan y staff. Caiff targedau'r cynllun eu hadolygu'n gyson gan
y Corff Llywodraethu.
School Improvement Plan
The School Development Plan sets out the strategic direction that the school will follow, over a
period of two years. The plan will be monitored and reviewed regularly to take into account the
progress that has been made and any changes to curriculum. The School Improvement Plan for
the academic year 2012/14 has been considered and approved by the Governing Body and is
currently being implemented by the staff. The planned targets will be regularly reviewed by the
Governing Body.
10. Cwricwlwm 2012 - 2013
Mae'r ysgol yn darparu Cwricwlwm eang, cytbwys a gwahaniaethol sy'n cynnig cyfleoedd i bob
disgybl ddatblygu'n l awn.
Yn Ôl-14 ac Ôl-16 mae cynllun Llwybrau Dysgu 14 - 19 Llywodraeth Cymru wedi cyflwyno Mesur
Sgiliau a Dysgu er mwyn ehangu'r cyfleoedd a'r profiadau sydd ar gael i bobl ifanc, yn enwedig yn
y maes galwedigaethol. Mae'r ysgol wedi cyrraedd gofynion y Mesur Sgiliau ers Medi 2010.
Rydym yn parhau i gydweithio'n l wyddiannus gyda phartneriaid amrywiol er mwyn sicrhau
ehangder cyfleoedd a phrofiadau i'r disgyblion i gyd.
Rydym yn parhau i weithio'n agos o fewn Consortiwm CYFLEOEDD - sef partneriaeth pedair Ysgol
Gymraeg RhCT a cholegau cysyl tiedig.
Curriculum 2012-2013
The school provides broad, balanced and differentiated opportunities for all pupils to develop their
full potential.
In Post 14 and Post-16 Learning Pathways 14-19 the Welsh Government has introduced the
Learning and Skills to expand the opportunities and experiences available to young people,
particularly in the vocational area. The school has met the requirements of the Skills since
September 2010. We continue to work successfully with various partners to ensure the breadth of
opportunities and experiences for all pupils.
We continue to work closely within the OPPORTUNITIES Consortium - a partnership of four RCT
Welsh School and affiliated colleges.

Ysgol Gyfun Garth Olwg is a Welsh medium school. Lessons (except for English) and all activities
are through the medium of Welsh.

Yn dilyn arolwg yr ysgol gan Estyn ym Mai 2013, bydd Cynl un Gweithredu yn cael ei lunio i fynd i'r
afael gyda'r argymhellion a wneir yn yr adroddiad.
Bydd yr adroddiad yn cael ei gyhoeddi ar wefan Estyn ar Orffennaf 24ain a bydd copïau ar gael yn
yr ysgol ym mis Medi i rieni sy'n dymuno derbyn copi caled.
Post Inspection Plan
Following a school inspection by Estyn in May of 2013, an Action Plan will be drawn up to address
the recommendations made in the report.
The report will be published on the Estyn website on July 24th and copies will be available at the
school in September for parents who wish to receive a hard copy.

Ysgol Gyfun Garth Olwg is part of the Garth Olwg Community Campus. The Lifelong Learning
Centre, which is also part of the Community Campus, offers a full and varied range of courses for
all age groups and along with the local community, our pupils benefit from the activities arranged
by the Centre.

rhyngddynt â'r ysgol a'r rhieni, er mwyn manteisio ar eu cyngor a'u harbenigedd er mwyn creu
cyfleoedd dysgu addas i bob disgybl. Ffocws hollbwysig yn y Côd Ymarfer yw creu partneriaeth dda
rhwng yr ysgol a rhieni disgyblion ag anghenion dysgu ychwanegol. Ceisia'r ysgol hyrwyddo'r
berthynas hon ar bob achlysur. Mae rhaglen effeithiol o ymyriad ar gyfer disgyblion sydd angen cymorth ychwanegol i wel a eu sgiliau
sylfaenol yn ogystal.
Additional Learning Needs
The school operates the Revised Code of Practice. Ysgol Gyfun Garth Olwg aims to ensure equality
of curriculum and social opportunities for pupils with Additional Educational Needs.
Ysgol Gyfun Garth Olwg has an integration policy which ensures that each pupil follows the National
Curriculum. Heads of Department strive to provide schemes of work, teaching and learning materials,
methodologies and experiences appropriate to the needs of all pupils throughout the ability range,
endeavouring to enhance and support learning. Pupils are given specific attention in small groups.
Other needs are met by staff from the Support Unit working within mainstream classes – usually in the
core subjects.
The three-stage assessment model outlined in the revised Code of Practices is adhered to. The
levels of support are described as: ‘School Action', ‘School Action Plus' and ‘Statemented'. ‘School
Action Plus' is actioned when outside agencies need to be involved to support the needs of the child.
There are 102 pupils from Years 7 – 13 on the Department's data – 80 ‘School Action'; 22 ‘School
Action Plus'. There 1 pupil on statement.
Within the Additional Needs Department there is a team of Teaching Support Assistants providing
specific learning experiences and support within lessons for small groups of pupils. The assistants
have either an NVQ Level 3 Teaching Assistant award or a Learning Coach qualification.
The school has the service of an Educational Psychologist on a fortnightly basis. Rhondda Cynon Tâf
Authority provides specialist support for dyslexia on a weekly basis. The school also has the support
of a specialised teacher who supports pupils with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
Whilst working with all the services, our priority is to ensure an effective dialogue between them, the
school and parents, to take advantage of their counsel and specialism, in order to create a learning
environment to suit every pupil. The main focus of the revised Code of Practice is to create a good
partnership between the school and parents of pupils who need support. The school promotes this
practice on every occasion.
There is an extensive programme of support for pupils who need extra help to improve their basic

Mae'r Corff Llywodraethu wedi ystyried gofynion y Ddeddf Cydraddoldeb 2010, Deddf Gwahaniaethu
ar sail Anabledd 1995 a Gorchymyn Deddf Anghenion Addysgol Arbennig ac Anabledd 2005 wrth
lunio Cynllun Strategol Cydraddoldeb yr Ysgol.
Mae'r ysgol wedi ymrwymo i sicrhau fod yr holl ddisgyblion yn gallu cyfranogi yng nghwricwlwm yr
ysgol a (os ydynt yn dymuno) mewn gweithgareddau megis clybiau ar ôl ysgol, digwyddiadau
chwaraeon/hamdden ac ymweliadau addysgiadol. Mae pob agwedd ar fynediad, gan gynnwys
mynediad i wybodaeth ysgrifenedig, wedi eu cynnwys.
Mae gan yr Awdurdod Strategaeth Hygyrchedd ac mae archwiliad wedi ei wneud o safle'r ysgol yn

Accessibility for Disabled Pupils
The governing body took full account of the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA)
1995 and the Special Needs and Disability Act (SENDA) 2005 in drawing up the School's Strategic
Equality Plan.
The school is committed to ensuring that all pupils are able to participate in the school curriculum and
(where they desire) in activities such as after school clubs, leisure/sporting events and educational
visits. All aspects of accessibility, incuding access to written information are included.
The Authority has in place an Accessibility Strategy and in line with this strategy has had an audit of
the school site undertaken, as part of an Authority wide brief, to identify any potential barriers and
(ultimately) improve the access to the school.

Provision of toilets
In accordance with the The School Governors' Annual Reports (Wales) Regulations 2011,
Governors are asked to include information on toilet provision and cleaning in the Annual Report to
parents. The school toilet facilities are modern and based on the total capacity of pupils the school
could accommodate, which is 1149. These are situated on each floor and on each level throughout
the school building. The school has good disabled toilet provision (5 in number) as well as provsion
for medical needs. The schoool toilets are cleaned on a daily basis. Additionally, the on-site
cleaner provided by Vinci checks all toilet facilities several times during the school day to ensure
cleanliness and any necessary provisions.

Mae'r ysgol yn parhau i osod pwyslais mawr ar gynyddu lefelau presenoldeb disgyblion. Rydym yn
gweithredu'n gyson er mwyn gwneud hynny ac mae strategaethau penodol yn dwyn ffrwyth. Mae
strategaethau eleni wedi sicrhau presenoldeb ysgol gyfan o 94%, cynnydd o +0.8%. Targed yr ysgol
gan yr ALl oedd 93.4%.

Attendance
Attendance Statistics: September 2012 – May 2013
The school continues to place great emphasis on increasing levels of pupil attendance. Our
consistent efforts and strategies to improve levels of attendance are bearing fruit. This year our
strategies have secured a whole school attendance of 94%, an increase of +08%. The target set
by the LA for school was 93.4%
We work closely with the Education Welfare Officer to support pupils in developing successful attendance patterns. Absence from school has a negative effect on the individual's academic standards and could also affect an individual's personal and social development, alter friendship patterns, as well as impede on the potential to succeed in public examinations. We kindly request the support of parents, especially those of Years 10 and 11 to ensure high attendance for all pupils. Persistant absence during the critical years of education could result in missing the opportunity to reach their full potential. It is strongly recommended that no pupils should go on holiday at all during school term. Absence will not be authorised without an absence note/letter.

Admission and Transition Arrangements
The County Borough Council is the Admissions Authority for all schools. The schools admission
arrangements are, therefore, operated in line with the Authority's policy on school admissions which
is contained in the publication Starting School book. The book is made available to parents at the
point of their application for their child's admission to school. The contents of this book can also be
accessed online on the Authority's website.
The school receives pupils from 5 feeder Welsh primary schools: Castellau, Evan James, Garth
Olwg, Heol-y-Celyn and Pont Sion Norton. We also receive a small number of pupils from
Gwaelod-y-Garth annually.
During Year 6 pupils have the opportunity to follow an inspiring transitiion programme at Ysgol
Gyfun Garth Olwg that promotes a smooth and effective transitiion. Recently master
classes/workshops were held in English and Art for More Able and Talented pupils in Year 5. This
programme will be extended to Mathematics and Welsh early in the autumn term.

The School's Sporting Aims, and Provision for Sport
The Physical Education department provides a balanced programme, which meets the needs of
the pupil in a way which enables him/her to enjoy every aspect. Every pupil is given the
opportunity to develop physically, socially, emotionally and cognitively. The Physical Education
curriculum offers an extensive range of experiences, which meet the needs of the individual pupil,
which hopefully encourages them to become participants, spectators or officials.
The development of confidence, endurance and the appreciation of strengths and weaknesses in
oneself and others play a very important part in the teaching process.
By delivering this programme it is intended to broaden the pupils' horizons and to prepare them to
take advantage of the opportunities presented to them in order that they can utilise their skills in
the world of leisure available to them. It will also foster those good practices, which will develop the skills, and attitude required to lead an active and healthy life. As well as offering gymnastics, athletics and dance, the teachers of the department, all of whom have adequate qualifications in their respective fields, give the pupils the opportunity to partake in the following sports: • Girls KS3

The P. E. Department offers GCSE and BTEC to 14+ and 16+, as well as AS and A Level courses.
An extensive programme of activities takes place during the dinner hour and after school hours. These activities are open to all pupils who show an interest. The school takes part in the local, and County leagues in rugby, soccer, basketball, hockey, netball, cross-country and athletics. The schools' facilities are used on a weekly basis by various clubs and agencies. The department is developing links with external coaches and professionals with the intention of inviting them to work with the pupils.

Eich hawl i ofyn am gyfarfod gyda chorff llywodraethu'r ysgol
Roedd yn arfer bod yn ofynnol i gyrff l ywodraethu ysgolion gynnal cyfarfod blynyddol gyda rhieni.
Cafodd y gofyniad hwnnw ei ddileu gan Ddeddf Safonau a Threfniadaeth Ysgolion (Cymru) 2013 (y
Ddeddf). Yn l e hynny, cyflwynwyd trefniadau newydd fel y bo modd i rieni ofyn am hyd at 3
chyfarfod gyda chorff l ywodraethu mewn unrhyw flwyddyn ysgol, i drafod materion sy'n peri pryder
Os yw rhieni am arfer eu hawliau dan y Ddeddf i gynnal cyfarfod, bydd angen bodloni 4 gofyniad:
Bydd angen i rieni gyflwyno deiseb o blaid cynnal cyfarfod.
Bydd angen i rieni o leiaf 30 o ddisgyblion cofrestredig lofnodi'r ddeiseb. Yn achos deiseb
ar bapur, rhaid rhoi l ofnod ysgrifenedig, yn ogystal ag enw a dosbarth pob plentyn sy'n
ddisgybl cofrestredig yn yr ysgol. Os yw'r ddeiseb yn un electronig, bydd angen i riant
‘lofnodi' drwy deipio ei enw a bydd rhaid rhoi enw a dosbarth pob plentyn sy'n ddisgybl
cofrestredig yn yr ysgol a chyfeiriad e-bost pob rhiant sy'n ‘l ofnodi'r' ddeiseb electronig.
Rhaid galw'r cyfarfod i drafod materion sy'n effeithio ar yr ysgol.
Ni ellir galw cyfarfod i drafod materion fel cynnydd disgyblion unigol, neu er mwyn gwneud
cwyn yn erbyn aelod o staff yr ysgol neu aelod o'r corff l ywodraethu.
Dylai'r ddeiseb gynnwys manylion cryno am y mater(ion) i'w trafod, a'r rhesymau dros alw'r
cyfarfod. Dylid dangos yr wybodaeth honno'n glir ar frig y ddeiseb, a dylai'r rhieni lofnodi
Ceir cynnal uchafswm o 3 chyfarfod yn ystod y flwyddyn ysgol
Mae'r gyfraith yn caniatáu i rieni arfer eu hawliau i ofyn am hyd at 3 chyfarfod gyda chorff
l ywodraethu ysgol yn ystod y flwyddyn ysgol.
Rhaid bod o leiaf 25 o ddiwrnodau ysgol ar ôl yn y flwyddyn ysgol

Ystyr "diwrnod ysgol" yw diwrnod pan fo'r ysgol yn agored i ddisgyblion: nid yw'n cynnwys
penwythnosau, gwyliau cyhoeddus, gwyliau ysgol na diwrnodau Hyfforddiant mewn Swydd
Dyma'r cyfeiriad ar gyfer cyflwyno deiseb yn gofyn am gyfarfod gyda chorff l ywodraethu'r ysgol:

Your right to request a meeting with the school's governing body
The Schools Standards and Organisation (Wales) Act 2013 (The Act) removed the requirement for
school governing bodies to hold an annual meeting with parents. Instead, new arrangements were
introduced to enable parents to request up to 3 meetings in any school year with a governing body,
on matters which are of concern to them.
If parents wish to use their rights under the Act to hold a meeting, 4 conditions will need to be
satisfied:
1.
Parents will need to raise a petition in support of holding a meeting.
The parents of at least 30 registered pupils will need to sign the petition. If it is a paper
petition, then a written signature must be given as well as the name and class of each child
who is a registered pupil at the school. If the petition is in electronic format, the ‘signature'
required is the typed name of the parent plus the name and class of each child who is a
registered pupil at the school and the email address of each parent who ‘signs' the
electronic petition.
2.
The meeting must be called to discuss matters which affect the school
The meeting cannot be called to discuss such matters as the progress of individual pupils,
or to make a compliant against a member of the school's staff or governing body.
The petition should contain brief details of the matter(s) to be discussed, and the reasons
for calling the meeting. This information should be clearly displayed at the top of the
petition, with parents' signatures appearing below.
3.
A maximum of 3 meetings can be held during the school year
The law allows parents to use their rights to request up to 3 meetings with a school
governing body during the school year.
4.
There must be at least 25 school days left in the school year
The law makes it a condition that at least 25 school days are left in the school year when the petition is received so that the meeting can be held. A "school day" means a day when the school is open to pupils: it does not include weekends, public holidays, school holidays or INSET days.
